text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]\n<h4 class=\"light\">Irene Guijarro Munoz<\/h4>\n<div class=\"position\">Director of Research<\/div>\n<p>Irene Guijarro Munoz joined the Happy Lungs Project (HLP) as Director of Research in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>She oversees and coordinates the <a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/research\/\">RET research program<\/a> at HLP, including the studies that are currently being funded by HLP and conducted at four major US cancer centers. She assists with the development of RET research funding proposals and coordinates collaborations between the academic investigators and commercial contractors. In addition, she helps lung cancer patients and their families in the understanding of the RET positive lung cancer biology and the potential treatment options available.<\/p>\n<p>She has a scientific background and she completed a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine, a Master of Biotechnology, and a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Biochemistry at Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Madrid, Spain, where she is originally from.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>She worked in lung cancer research as a postdoctoral fellow at Dr. John Heymach\u2019s laboratory at Thoracic\/Head and Neck Medical Oncology, MD\u00a0Anderson Cancer Center.
